Huawei is gearing up to launch its latest innovation—a new Huawei Pura foldable phone under the Pura series, which is expected to debut at the Huawei Pura Pioneer Festival and Hongmeng Zhixing New Product Launch on March 20. With the brand teasing an “unthinkable product,” many believe this could be Huawei’s most unique foldable phone yet.
Previously, Huawei Pura foldable phones were part of the Pocket series, with the last release being the Pocket 2 in February 2023. This time, however, the foldable is under the Pura branding, indicating a possible rebranding and upgrade.
But why is this device considered “unthinkable”? Huawei’s teaser video provides some clues. The video features young people in a rectangular pool, which they push apart to expand the space—hinting at a new wider screen ratio. The text in the video reads “16:10 Open Imagination,” which suggests the phone might feature an unusual 16:10 aspect ratio instead of the typical taller screens seen in foldables.

Huawei Pura Foldable phone with a Unique Ratio
Leaked specifications suggest that the new Pura mini foldable will feature:
A 3.48-inch external screen
A 6.28-inch internal screen
A compact, shorter, and wider design
This aspect ratio shift could make the unfolded phone resemble a small tablet, setting it apart from existing foldable phones. It may also enhance usability for productivity, reading, and video consumption, similar to laptop screens.
First Foldable with Native Hongmeng OS
One of the biggest highlights of this device is that it will be Huawei’s first smartphone running a native version of Hongmeng OS (HarmonyOS). This suggests deeper software integration and better optimization for multitasking on the unique aspect ratio.
Additionally, Huawei’s Pura 80 series, which will likely launch later, might also benefit from this new “pure-blooded” Hongmeng OS approach.
Huawei Pura Foldable Specifications
Rumors indicate that the Pura foldable will include:
- Kirin 9 series chipset
- 1.5K LTPO inner display
- 50MP large-sensor main camera
- Side fingerprint scanner
- Water and dust resistance
This combination of features suggests flagship-level imaging, a smooth display, and robust durability.
Huawei’s Take on Apple’s Upcoming Foldable
Interestingly, Apple is also rumored to be working on a foldable phone with an unconventional 4:3 aspect ratio. However, Apple’s version is expected to be a larger foldable (5.5-inch outer screen, 7.8-inch inner screen), launching in 2026. If Huawei’s device performs well, it could set a trend for wider-screen foldables before Apple enters the market.
