Xiaomi 16 Leak Hints at Spliced Design, Bigger Battery—But No Periscope Lens Yet

With Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset expected to debut by the end of September, all eyes are now on Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi 16 series, which traditionally launches with the new Xiaomi 16 Leak, Snapdragon silicon. The latest round of leaks gives us an early peek at what to expect—and while there are some noteworthy upgrades, a few things are staying the same.

According to fresh leaks, the Xiaomi 16 Leak will retain the matrix-style camera module in the top-left corner of the back panel—similar to the Xiaomi 15. However, Xiaomi is reportedly experimenting with the rear design this time around, possibly using a spliced construction that combines aluminum alloy and glass, along with a 3D-printed metal mid-frame. It’s a blend that could give the device a more premium in-hand feel.

On the camera front, Xiaomi isn’t going for anything radical. The phone is said to feature a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP vertical telephoto—still no periscope zoom in sight. This decision likely comes down to space constraints within the camera module design.

The main shooter will reportedly use a new 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, while the telephoto lens could stick with the Samsung JN5 sensor used in the previous generation, supporting telephoto macro capabilities.

The front of the Xiaomi 16 is expected to house a 6.36-inch flat display with large R-rounded corners, much like its predecessor. However, one key upgrade could be in the biometrics department—leaks suggest it will feature a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is generally faster and more secure than optical solutions.

Perhaps the most significant upgrade comes under the hood. The battery capacity is reportedly getting a big bump, now expected to exceed 6500mAh, compared to the 5400mAh unit found in the Xiaomi 15. This could translate to noticeable improvements in real-world endurance, especially when paired with Qualcomm’s more efficient upcoming chipset.

While the Xiaomi 16 doesn’t appear to be a complete overhaul, the larger battery, potential premium build, and the next-gen Snapdragon chip make it a solid step forward. That said, the lack of a periscope lens and modest camera upgrades might leave some photography enthusiasts wanting more.

We’ll have to wait for more details on things like vibration motor improvements, audio enhancements, and charging speeds—but if the leaks are anything to go by, Xiaomi is gearing up for another flagship launch that blends refinement with raw power.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the official reveal.
